Nils Koppen shares five-word reaction to Rangers draw v Benfica in Europa League
Nils Koppen has shared a five-word reaction on social media to the Rangers draw against Benfica on Thursday (7 March).
The Gers’ new director of football recruitment tweeted after the game that it was a “strong performance from the team” as they played out a 2-2 draw in the Portuguese capital.
The Light Blues went ahead twice in the Europa League last-16 tie before a Connor Goldson own goal ensured the spoils were shared heading into the second leg at Ibrox on 14 March.
Rangers well-placed to make it through against Benfica
There is no doubt that Rangers would have taken a draw if they were offered it before kick-off as The Estádio da Luz is notoriously a difficult place to go and pick up a result.
They will be slightly disappointed not to have taken a first-leg advantage back to Glasgow with them after taking the lead twice before Goldson put through his own net.
But it was a hugely positive night for the Gers overall as the character they showed, while dealing with an injury crisis, proved how far they’ve come in such a short space of time under Philippe Clement.
They are now well-placed to go and take the game to the Portuguese champions when the two sides do battle again next week at Ibrox.
But Clement will be driving the message home to his side that they must keep their focus on the here and now as they face Hibernian in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals on Sunday (10 March).
In other Rangers news, a journalist has mooted a potential Ibrox exit as the Gers look to kickstart their player-trading model.
