Rangers: Spokeperson reacts as ‘regrettable’ Brendan Rodgers Celtic incident takes new twist
Brendan Rodgers could be facing a suspension for his comments on referees when Rangers face Celtic in the next Old Firm derby on April 7, according to STV News.
The news outlet reported on Wednesday (6 March) that the Hoops boss has been charged for claiming the officiating against Hearts on 3 March was “really poor”, with his tribunal date being set for 28 March, meaning he could miss the showdown at Ibrox if he’s handed a two-match touchline ban.
A spokesperson for the Scottish Senior Referees Associated said it is “regrettable” that criticism has become “much more frequent, disproportionate, and personalised” towards its members in response to the Northern Irishman’s comments following his side’s defeat at Tynecastle.
Brendan Rodgers ban could be boost for Rangers
It’s been a difficult couple of weeks for Rodgers as his comments after the Celtic defeat at Hearts aren’t the only ones that have been brought into question lately.
The Hoops boss is well and truly under pressure after the majority of the club’s fans have been frustrated by the recent performances of their side.
While it could potentially be a boost for Rangers to not have Rodgers on the touchline against them, some of the Parkhead club’s supporters would probably welcome him not being in the dugout for the game.

It feels like the Northern Irishman’s return to Glasgow may not be a happy one as he could be making a swift exit if he doesn’t manage to retain the SPL title this season.
Although the Gers slipped up against Motherwell, they are still very much in control of the title race and will be looking to put things right when they return to league action following their game against Benfica.
In other Rangers news, a journalist has mooted a potential Ibrox exit as the Gers look to kickstart their player-trading model.
