Rangers: Philippe Clement must stick with John Lundstram v Benfica after 93% Motherwell display

Rangers need to get back to their best as soon as possible, with Philippe Clement’s men low on confidence after a shock defeat to Motherwell.

The Gers lost 2-1 in the Scottish Premiership clash at Ibrox on Saturday (2 March), in what was a real setback to their title hopes.

The majority of those watching on were in disbelief, with the visitors leaving Glasgow with all three points.

Now Clement must regather his troops for their huge European tie with Portuguese giants Benfica, with the two clubs going head to head in a Europa League round of 16 first leg tie on Thursday (7 March).

The man in the away dugout will be keen to make several changes to his starting XI, namely due to rotation purposes but also because not many of his players impressed against Motherwell.

But one player who should be handed another start is John Lundstram, with the midfielder producing a top display at Ibrox despite the defeat.

Rangers ace John Lundstram must start versus Benfica

As per Sofascore, the experienced Gers man completed 93% of his passes, two of which were key, with nine of his 10 long passes being accurate.

Moreover, the midfielder made one clearance, one interception and one tackle, with such an effort deserving of another start under Clement.

Lundstram did, however, play the entire 90 minutes against Motherwell, meaning the manager could switch him out for another midfielder in order to start the match against Benfica as brightly as possible.
