Rangers: Hearts chief adds fuel to transfer fire with Lawrence Shankland contract comments
Rangers have really strengthened their attack in recent times, both with Philippe Clement in January and Michael Beale last summer.
But that hasn’t stopped Hearts star Lawrence Shankland from being linked with a move to Ibrox, with every goal he scores simply adding more and more talk.
And now Hearts chairman Ann Budge has weighed in on the situation, with her comments certain to spark further debate about where the in-form striker will be playing his football next season.
The Jambos ace has outshone all of the Ibrox attackers this season, with Shankland boasting 27 goals in all competitions.
Unsurprisingly, the Edinburgh club are doing all they can to extend his time in the capital, with Budge discussing his contract with Sky Sports: “We will try, we have been trying, as I’m sure everybody knows, and we will continue to try.
“Clearly we love having Lawrence here, he’s a fantastic character to have around. And if we can, we will keep him, but largely it will come down to him.
“He will have his own ideas about where he wants his career to go. Does he want to stay in Scotland, does he want to try something else? At the end of the day, we’ll do our best, and time will tell whether we can succeed.”
Can Rangers persuade Lawrence Shankland to come to Ibrox?
Hearts clearly want the player to commit his future to the club, but Rangers may just be having other ideas, with the idea of playing regular European football at Ibrox potentially enough to tempt the striker to make the move to Glasgow.
Philippe Clement won’t, however, be paying too much attention to any transfer talk right now, with Benfica his only priority at this moment in time.

The Gers travel to Portugal to take on the European heavyweights in a round of 16 first leg clash on Thursday (7 March).
