Rangers fans spotted in violent clashes in Lisbon as footage emerges ahead of Europa League game
Rangers fans have been involved in violent clashes in Lisbon ahead of their Europa League game against Benfica on Thursday (7 March), according to A Bola.
The Portuguese news outlet posted a video on Twitter on Thursday, showing what is reportedly the Gers fans clashing with Atalanta supporters after their side played Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday (6 March).
The Scottish Sun reported that a group of ultras from the Italian side attacked some of the Light Blues supporters outside a hotel in the Portuguese capital.
Shocking scenes involving Rangers fans
These are scenes that the majority of real football fans don’t want to see involved in the sport as it sends out the completely wrong message.
It’s often the case when British clubs head to Europe that their fans are attacked and the reports appear to suggest that was the case once again in Lisbon.
While the Gers fans may have been innocent parties before they were set upon, this is not something the club will want to see.
The focus should be on the Light Blues’ game against Benfica, but it’s likely that this incident could overshadow what should be a great match in the Portuguese capital.
Hopefully, there are no further scenes like this before or after the game this evening as it is absolutely not what we want to see involved with our sport.
