Rangers: Chris Jack shares ‘impossible’ Kieran Dowell injury update at Ibrox

Chris Jack has claimed it may be impossible for Rangers midfielder Kieran Dowell to return to full fitness before the end of the season at Ibrox.

The Rangers Review journalist referred to Dowell as the “forgotten man” given his lengthy injury absences since arriving at Ibrox in the summer transfer window.

He continued by claiming he would be surprised to see the midfielder before the end of the season despite hopes which emerged over his fitness around the Christmas period.

Speaking to The Rangers Review [6 March], Jack shared: “There hasn’t been an update on Kieran Dowell for quite some time, he’s become almost the forgotten man of the Rangers squad.

“He came about into the side around Christmas, I thought he played well in a couple of games and people were saying he could have a big second half to the season, but he just can’t stay fit.

“Ultimately, it doesn’t matter what the reason for it is, he’s not available and if you’re not training at this stage of the season and you’re in a long-term injury situation, it’s almost impossible to see him playing before the end of the season.

“I would be surprised if we see Dowell before the end of the campaign.”

Will Kieran Dowell be at Rangers next season?

Questions will almost certainly be asked about Dowell’s long-term future at the club given his lack of availability, with yet another clearout at Ibrox potentially on the cards when the season ends as they look to rectify the mistakes of the past.

He arrived as one of Michael Beale’s many flop signings in the summer transfer window and has made just seven league appearances for the club, with just four of those coming from the start amid constant injury issues.

If they can somehow make any money from his sale despite his continuous issues, Rangers would be making an almost immediate profit on a player who has barely even represented them, which could only be seen as a good business deal.

With the arrival of Nils Koppen and the new transfer strategy at the club, Rangers should be in a better position to avoid signings like this one in the future, and if money can be raised from his sale, it should be invested elsewhere.
