Rangers tipped to sign ‘fantastic’ Motherwell star Lennon Miller by Ibrox insider
Barry Ferguson has admitted he would be “amazed” if Rangers aren’t considering a summer transfer for Motherwell midfielder Lennon Miller after his recent display at Ibrox.
The 17-year-old impressed in Saturday’s (2 March) 2-1 win in Glasgow, playing the full 90 minutes as Stuart Kettlewell’s side ended Philippe Clement’s unbeaten run at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership.
While there has been little indication that the Gers are interested in securing the teenager’s signature this summer, Ferguson has urged Rangers to get a deal over the line and not repeat their previous mistakes with young stars.
Speaking on The Go Radio Show (4 March, 49:05) he said: “I watched him closely, the young man in the middle of the pitch. I’ll go from the Rangers’ point of view, I would be amazed if they weren’t looking at him and trying to do something to get him.
“He’s a fantastic footballer and he plays above his years. He’s 17 and Stephen says he plays like a 30-year-old. He looks mature, he’s got a bit about him, he knows how to take the ball in difficult areas. He can handle it in big arenas and he showed that again this weekend.
“Motherwell are going to struggle to keep hold of him, if he continues like this, it won’t just be Rangers and Celtic, the big dogs down south will be all over the top of him.
“I hope we don’t make the same mistake. We’ve lost Lewis Ferguson, young Josh Doig etc. Don’t allow this young man to go. I think we’ve got a proper, proper player on our hands.
Will Rangers be able to beat Premier League clubs to Lennon Miller’s signature?
As Ferguson suggested, Rangers have been guilty of letting a number of impressive Scottish talents slip from under their noses in recent years and they cannot afford to let Lennon become the latest in that list.
The 17-year-old came to Ibrox on Saturday and ran the show against the likes of Nicolas Raskin and John Lundstram. While that is worrying from a Gers perspective, it shows that he is more than ready to play at the Old Firm’s level.

Clement has only bought players in from outside of Scotland since he arrived in Glasgow, despite plenty of links with Lawrence Shankland and some pundits have even accused the Gers of snobbery in the transfer market.
Hopefully, Rangers put any snobbery to one side when the window opens this summer and do all they can to win the race for Lennon as he’s far too bright a talent to be passed up on.
