Rangers: Philippe Clement must make his move for Lawrence Shankland as contract update issued

Rangers will be furious with their latest result, with Philippe Clement’s side losing 2-1 at home to Motherwell on Saturday (2 March).

It was a real shock to the majority of those watching on inside Ibrox, with the visitors leaving with all three points.

The very surprising result gave Celtic the opportunity to go back to the top of the Scottish Premiership table, but they also suffered a huge blow as they lost 2-0 to Hearts on Sunday (3 March).

On the scoresheet at Tynecastle was star striker Lawrence Shankland, who has been linked with a switch to Ibrox in recent times.

He has stayed put in the capital for the time being, but his future is undoubtedly up in the air, with the striker issuing a contract update after the win against Celtic.

“We’ll see if we open talks further down the line,” said Shankland, as quoted by BBC Sport. “At the moment, the club and I are happy with the situation.”

Rangers should make summer swoop for Lawrence Shankland

The comments certainly don’t suggest that Shankland is finished with Edinburgh outfit Hearts, but they do provide Clement with a great opportunity to swoop in and give the player and indeed his current club an offer they can’t refuse.

All parties must, of course, wait until the summer transfer window to officially decide the situation, but Clement should already be planning for life with Shankland in his starting XI.

In a stunning season so far, the striker boasts 27 goals from his 37 appearances in all competitions, with 20 of those strikes coming in the league.
