Rangers and Celtic involved in six-year first, Philippe Clement will be relieved
Philippe Clement – and indeed everyone connected to Rangers – will be relieved after Celtic were beaten 2-0 by Hearts on Sunday (3 March).
The Gers were themselves on the end of a surprise result that nobody saw coming a little under 24 hours earlier as they fell 2-1 at home to Motherwell.
After the dust has settled on a dramatic couple of days at the top of the Scottish Premiership, Rangers retain a two-point lead at the summit.
As per Opta Analyst, it is the first time both Rangers and Celtic have both lost on the same weekend in the league since February 2018.
Back then, Rangers lost 2-1 at home to Hibernian through goals from John McGinn and Jamie Maclaren, with Sean Goss on target for the Gers.
Celtic were beaten 1-0 at Kilmarnock on the same day (3 February) through a Youssouf Mulumbu goal.
What we have seen this weekend is a rare occurrence to say the least, but it only adds to the drama that a title race can bring.
Clement will be grateful to Hearts for ensuring the title is still very much in his side’s hands as we approach the split.
The closer it gets, the bigger the upcoming Old Firm derby is going to be, with that potentially a defining fixture.
Either side of that showdown, expect plenty more twists and turns – albeit unlikely on the same scale as we have seen across this weekend.
In other Rangers news, Malik Tillman has compared the atmosphere of the Old Firm with one of the biggest rivalries in the Netherlands.
