Rangers: Ally McCoist shares SPFL title verdict live on talkSPORT amid controversy
Ally McCoist has shared his view that neither Rangers nor Celtic will be comfortable at the top of the SPFL this season after defeats to Motherwell and Hearts respectively.
The Rangers legend also insisted, however, that the lack of certainty at the top will make for a more entertaining title race despite poor performances from both clubs this season.
This comes after both Old Firm clubs fell to defeats at the weekend, with both games marred by controversies surrounding refereeing displays.
Speaking live on talkSPORT [4 March, 06:04], McCoist shared: “Before we start getting carried away, I was at Ibrox on Saturday, we were not good.
“Again, in both games, certainly Celtic against Hearts, there was a lot of controversy involving VAR and penalties and handbells, sending offs and all that stuff. Never a dull moment.
“No, listen, I’ll tell you the gospel truth. On the evidence of the weekend, neither of the two of them look like they’re going to be comfortable at the top. Both of them I thought were poor.
“However, sometimes what you do get when there’s a level playing field is some proper excitement and, do you know what, it looks as though this one is going to go all the way to the wire.”
Will Rangers or Celtic win the SPFL this season?
After Rangers dropped points in disappointing fashion with a defeat to Motherwell at Ibrox, it seemed to all the world that Celtic would make their advantage count with a win against Hearts to take them back to the top of the league.
However, their performance against Hearts was far from dominant, with a 2-0 defeat meaning Philippe Clement’s men held on to first place, although the weekend will now look like an opportunity missed for both clubs.
At this stage, it appears that whichever club can put a strong run of results together will go on to win the title, with both of them uncharacteristically inconsistent and dropping some shock points throughout the season so far.

In Rangers’ defeat to Motherwell at the weekend, McCoist was particularly critical of two Rangers players as the frustration surrounding their result built up, but with Celtic also dropping points, fans at Ibrox were given some respite.
