Rangers: Mark Wilson makes Connor Goldson claim on Sky Sports after loss v Motherwell at Ibrox
Mark Wilson believes teams may look to target Connor Goldson in the heart of the Rangers defence after what happened against Motherwell.
Goldson struggled as the Gers fell to a surprise 2-1 loss at Ibrox in Saturday’s (2 March) Scottish Premiership clash.
The defender has had a few dodgy moments in recent games and Wilson reckons that is something upcoming opponents will be taking note of.
“Goldson has been a terrific servant and has played well for years, but him and John Souttar struggled physically at the weekend,” Wilson said on Sky Sports News [4 March, 11:28am].
“It might be the same against Kilmarnock. Teams going there may think we’ll put somebody physical on him. But their clean sheet record this season is not bad at all on the whole.”
Rangers turn focus to Benfica tie
Philippe Clement will not rip up his Rangers side on the back of one defeat; a defeat that now looks ever harsher on the basis of two former referees saying the match-winner should never have been on the field.
Rangers were never going to see out the rest of the season unbeaten, and it is unlikely that this will be the final setback between now and the end of the campaign.
It is about how you bounce back from the losses, which in the Gers’ case will hopefully be with a positive performance against Benfica in Europe on Thursday (7 March).

The trip to Hibernian next Sunday (10 March) has also now taken on added significance, with Clement having a couple of selection decisions to make for that Scottish Cup tie.
Goldson has not be brilliant of late, but Clement will be pleased with his side’s overall defensive record to date. Indeed, Goldson has helped Rangers keep 11 clean sheets in his past 19 games.
Squad rotation is key with European games back on the agenda, though, and it will be interesting to see exactly what XI Clement now fields against Benfica and then Hibernian.
