Sir Kenny Dalglish makes SPFL title race prediction between Rangers and Celtic

Sir Kenny Dalglish has named Rangers as favourites to win the SPFL title currently amid poor Celtic form in recent weeks.

Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy podcast (29 February), the Liverpool legend was asked about how the Hoops have performed this season amid their struggles recently which have seen Rangers move to the top of the table.

And he admitted that Philippe Clement has turned the title race on its head and while he claimed that you can’t write Celtic off, he did name Rangers as the favourites as it stands.

“Celtic have got it all going on,” he said. “They got kicked out of the League Cup against Kilmarnock, as well as losing a league game to them too, then they lost to Hearts at home who Rangers just turned over 5-0. They really need to get themselves in tune.

“You can never write Celtic off. However, Philippe Clement has just done such a good job at Rangers, with a couple of good signings since he took over, and they’re still in the last 16 in Europe. Under Clement, the only game they have lost is against Celtic, but that was a bit nip and tuck anyway.

“At the moment you’d have to say Rangers are the favourites and there are still two Old Firm games to come which could be vital for both teams – it’s a crucial fixture as it is! It’s always either been Celtic or Rangers for success in Scotland.”

Rangers are back, Celtic are in trouble

Over the last couple of years there have been lots of people praising Celtic but conveniently ignoring the fact that Rangers have been going through a transition period.

Philippe Clement is the fourth Rangers manager in as many years after Steve Gerrard, Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Michael Beale and it feels like the board have only just managed to get the appointment right.

Celtic on the other hand had a manager in charge who had the club set up to his needs and he was performing well, which allowed them to really kick on and be relentless to win titles.

But now it’s the Ibrox club who are in that position, with Brendan Rodgers struggling at Parkhead while Rangers go from strength to strength on and off the pitch under Clement’s management.

The team are favourites because they’re finally on the right track and performing the way everyone knew they were capable of. The title is in the Bears’ hands now and it’s time for them to deliver.
