Scott Wright must step up after Oscar Cortes news at Rangers
Oscar Cortes’ injury has paved the way for Scott Wright to step into Philippe Clement’s Rangers plans for this weekend and he must grasp his opportunity.
The Gers are back in Scottish Premiership action with a home clash against Motherwell at Ibrox on Saturday (2 March) as they look to keep their momentum going having won 11 straight games in all competitions.
Cortes, 20, is out for an indefinite period, as confirmed by his manager on X (1 March), having gone off in the comeback 2-1 win versus Kilmarnock (28 February), which poses a dilemma as to who to bring in as his replacement.
Rangers door opens for Scott Wright after Oscar Cortes setback
One option would be Wright. He has made 16 appearances in the league so far this season for the Gers and hasn’t managed to score or get an assist. Nevertheless, he has managed to find the net on a couple of occasions – once in the Viaplay Cup and once in the Scottish FA Cup.
He came off the bench last time out as Clement’s men won 2-1 away at Kilmarnock last time out after goals by James Tavernier and Tom Lawrence and this upcoming clash against Motherwell provides him with an ideal opportunity to show what he can do having found himself on the fringes under Clement.
Rangers signed the former Scotland youth international back from Aberdeen in 2021 and he has since mainly been used as a squad player.
Wright has made 108 appearances in all competitions and has chipped in with 10 goals.

You need players to stand up and be counted, especially when going for a title, and heroes can come in the form of unlikely individuals.
There is no reason why Wright can’t do his bit as the Gers look to pip Celtic to top spot come the end of the season. It is time for him to step up.
