Rangers: Simon Jordan slams ‘morons’ live on talkSPORT after Hibernian ticket update

Simon Jordan has slammed “morons” for bringing flares into football grounds after Hibernian shared a new ticket update surrounding Rangers’ away allocation.

Hibernian CEO Ben Kensell admitted that the club are considering cutting the Light Blues’ ticket allocations at Easter Road in the future due to recent fan misbehaviour in the stands [Football Scotland, 28 February]

While some have argued that the use of pyrotechnics helps create an atmosphere inside the stadium, talkSPORT host Jordan has hit out at a Luton Town supporter and urged him and other supporters, including those at Ibrox, to do as they’re told.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Friday (1 March, 11:27) he said: “I don’t believe football has ever encouraged people to use flares and with that in mind, I think it’s a very simple guideline and a very simple directive. Do as you’re told, don’t bring flares inside the stadium, that’s the end of the discussion.

“Your opinion is irrelevant, whether you think it adds to the atmosphere is incidental. If you’re told you cannot let flares off, then you cannot let flares off.

“Despite your protestations that the product itself is safe if used properly, you may well be a sensible man in some respects of knowing how to utilise it, there are plenty of morons who aren’t.”

Will Rangers’ ticket allocation at Easter Road be cut in the future?

While the pyrotechnic displays often seen in the Rangers’ away ends can look spectacular, they aren’t safe for supporters and that has been reflected in Hibs’ decision to look at cutting the Gers’ ticket allocations.

It will be a massive shame if the actions of a few supporters stop a number of other Rangers fans from making the trip to grounds like Easter Road in the future because teams decide to cap ticket allocations.

Rangers supporters will be important in Philippe Clement’s side’s push for the Premiership title this season, both home and away and it would be a massive blow to their hopes if there were empty away ends at grounds.

Hopefully, police in Scotland will do what they can to put an end to these displays inside stadiums and any fears of “morons” harming those inside football grounds can be brushed to one side.
