Rangers v Motherwell: Philippe Clement delivers Oscar Cortes injury update, two others back
Philippe Clement has shared an injury update ahead of Saturday’s (2 March) showdown between Rangers and Motherwell at Ibrox.
The Gers are aiming to maintain or extend their current two-point lead on Celtic, who travel to Hearts the following day.
Rangers will be without January recruit Oscar Cortes, who sustained an injury in the 2-1 win over Kilmarnock in midweek.
However, Kemar Roofe is back in contention after missing the Killie win due to concerns over the pitch, while Ryan Jack is also available.
Tom Lawrence is also available, despite an injury scare last time out, as confirmed by Clement at Friday’s (1 March) press conference.
Rangers awaiting further news on Oscar Cortes injury
Clement added that Cortes is waiting to see a specialist and no timeframe is known for his return to action.
The worry for Rangers is that the 20-year-old could now possibly be on the sidelines for a prolonged period of time, with the international break on the horizon.
Cortes has made an impressive start to life at Ibrox since joining from Lens on an initial loan in January with the right to buy.
The youngster got a goal and an assist in the recent thrashing of Hearts and looked as though he would become a regular under Clement, if not for this setback.
Cortes’ absence presents an opportunity for other wingers to step up, however, and more often than not the fringe players have done exactly that under Clement.

With Lawrence also available, as well as Roofe and Jack, Clement is not short of options in any position.
The games are coming thick and fast now, so it is inevitable that injuries and suspensions will pose a problem for Clement in the remaining couple of months of the campaign.
As we have seen since Clement’s arrival, however, no problem is too big for the Belgian to navigate. And there is no reason that will not be the case once again this weekend.
In other Rangers news, multiple Russian clubs attempted to sign a Gers player in the January transfer window.
