BBC pundit shares ‘ridiculous’ Celtic admission amid ‘pivotal’ moment for Rangers in title race

Ian McCall believes the form of Celtic is “ridiculous” despite them currently being behind Rangers in the SPL title race.

Speaking on the Scottish Football Podcast on Thursday (29 February), the pundit said it’s like the “old days” after the Gers have won 11 games in a row, with both teams just looking at each others results.

He added that there hasn’t been a title race like this for a “number of years”, but he believes the Light Blues’ victory over Kilmarnock could be “pivotal” in their bid to claim Scottish football’s biggest honour this season.

“I know people say Celtic’s form is not good, but you look at the results, they’ve won nine and drawn two out of 11 or something ridiculous like that,” said McCall.

“Rangers have won 10, 11 in a row. This is like the old days for Celtic and Rangers, where both teams by five o’clock were just looking at each others results. We haven’t had a title race like this for a number of years, it’s very exciting.

“I just think that could be pivotal winning down there [at Kilmarnock]. Lawrence being fit again, terrific winner. It was a big, big result for Rangers and for Clement.”

Rangers must remain focused in title race with Celtic

It’s a situation that hasn’t occurred for quite some time in the SPL as Rangers and Celtic are toe-to-toe heading into the final few months of the campaign.

The Gers looked to be out of the race when Philippe Clement arrived at Ibrox, but he has put an incredible run together to take them two points clear of their Old Firm rivals at the top of the table.

While the Hoops have been criticised for their performances lately, their form isn’t actually that bad despite suffering a couple of blips recently.

It’s uncharted territory for the vast majority of the players at both clubs as they won’t have been involved in a title race as fierce as this before given how much is on the line.

But all the Light Blues can do is focus on performing well, winning their own games and then the title race will take care of itself this season.
