Rangers: Mark Warburton slams ‘torrid’ Borna Barisic for what he did v Kilmarnock

Rangers defender Borna Barisic was given a torrid time by Danny Armstrong in the Gers’ Scottish Premiership clash with Kilmarnock, according to Mark Warburton.

Philippe Clement’s side came from behind to maintain their lead at the top of the Premiership table with a 2-1 win at Rugby Park on Wednesday (28 February) thanks to goals from James Tavernier and Tom Lawrence.

However, the Light Blues’ performance was far from perfect, especially in the first half and Warburton was quick to slam Barisic in particular for his poor display in the opening 45 minutes of the showdown.

Speaking on Sky Sports Soccer Special on Wednesday (28 February, 8:56) he said: “A couple of changes made, Yilmaz has come on for Barisic who was having a torrid time against but as of yet there’s no real reaction.”

Will Borna Barisic leave Rangers this summer?

It was a shock when Barisic was named in Rangers’ starting XI for their clash with Kilmarnock ahead of Ridvan Yilmaz as the Turkish defender has been in inspired form since Clement arrived in Glasgow earlier in the season.

The Belgian hasn’t been afraid to tinker with his starting XI, but Barisic’s display on Wednesday night was further evidence that his time at Ibrox is quickly coming to an end as he can’t be relied upon week in and week out.

The Croatian international’s contract is up at the end of the season and it seems unlikely that either party will be rushing to agree an extension, with a move in the summer the best solution for all involved.

Hopefully, that’s the last we see of Barisic in a Rangers shirt, at least for a while and Yilmaz will almost certainly return to the starting XI for the clash with Motherwell at Ibrox on Saturday (2 March).
