Rangers: Deal to be agreed for Brentford to seal MacKenzie Strachan transfer at Ibrox

Rangers are likely to allow MacKenzie Strachan to leave Ibrox amid interest from Brentford in the 20-year-old midfielder, according to Daily Record.

The online source reported [28 February] that the Bees are keen on adding Strachan to their development ranks ahead of next season, with the Gers unlikely to stand in the way if a deal is agreed.

It is understood that the midfielder’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, having signed a two-year deal back in 2022.

Will MacKenzie Strachan be the next to leave Rangers for Brentford?

If the deal is to go ahead, Strachan will be following in the footsteps of former Rangers prospect Nathan Young-Coombes, who joined the Bees in 2022 and is currently out on loan at Wimbledon.

Having reached the age of 20 without making a single senior appearance for Rangers, it would appear that any chance of a breakthrough from Auchenhowie has vanished.

He has experienced a loan move away from the club recently, joining Stranraer for the first half of the 2023/24 campaign but was subsequently recalled.

Several young prospects have been brought through the first team, with Ross McCausland the most recent proof that Philippe Clement believes that if you are good enough, you are old enough.

The sensational winger has already played 28 times for Rangers, scoring twice and providing two assists as he continues to develop in the senior side.

Despite this, a move away from Ibrox looks imminent for Strachan, who could be joining former Rangers academy star Young-Coombes, much to the disappointment of some of the Ibrox faithful, who will be wanting to bring through fresh blood.

It has not quite worked out for Strachan, which will be a disappointment for all involved in his development at Auchenhowie. Not all players can turn out to be superstars, but Brentford have clearly seen something in the 20-year-old.
