Rangers: Cammy Bell raves over ‘unbelievable’ Jack Butland moment v Kilmarnock
Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland made an “unbelievable” save to keep his side in the game against Kilmarnock, according to BBC Sportscene’s Cammy Bell.
The Gers came from behind to beat Kilmarnock 2-1 at Rugby Park on Wednesday 28 February and maintain their two point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
Two goals in four second-half minutes from James Tavernier and Tom Lawrence handed Philippe Clement’s side all three points, but it was Butland’s heroics in the first half which kept the visitors in the match.
Butland denied Matthew Kennedy from close range, showing incredible reactions to get down quickly and get a glove to the forward’s goalbound shot.
Bell was full of praise for the 30-year-old while speaking on BBC Sportscence (28 February), “This is where he steps into his own and this is why he is getting talked about for an England call-up.
“It is an unbelievable save, a big moment in the game as well for me, that’s when Kilmarnock are 1-0 up, that takes them to 2-0 and it is a different game if that goes in the back of the net so it is a huge save.
“He has made a number of them since he has joined the club, he has been absolutely brilliant.”
Could Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland be called up for England?
Replacing Jordan Pickford in the England national team is no easy task.
The Everton shot-stopper has long been the nation’s number one and is a clear favourite of Gareth Southgate.
However, based on form, it is hard to deny that Butland deserves an opportunity, or at the very least the chance to step in should Pickford become unavailable for whatever reason.
After a quiet few years in his career, Butland’s decision to move to Ibrox is proving to have been a very smart one. He has rediscovered the form which made him such an exciting English goalkeeper to begin with, and he has certainly left Southgate with a decision to make.
Butland has been fantastic for Rangers this season, and his most recent save against Kilmarnock just epitomises that fact.

If he continues in this form, as well as pushing the Gers to the title he could push himself all the way to a spot on the plane for the 2024 European Championships in Germany.
