BBC Sportscene pundit shares new Rangers and Celtic title verdict after what he saw

Neil McCann believes the Old Firm game between Rangers and Celtic on 7 April will tell everybody a “big story” in the Scottish Premiership title race.

Speaking on BBC Sportscene on Wednesday (28 February, 41:09), the pundit said the Gers came through an “acid test” following their 2-1 victory over Kilmarnock.

But he added that a “sticky performance” from the Hoops against Motherwell was “totally abolished” after their 7-1 win over Dundee as the two Glasgow outfits battle it out for Scottish football’s biggest honour this season.

“That was an acid test for them tonight against Kilmarnock, they’ve come through it,” said McCann. “But a sticky performance against Motherwell was totally abolished after tonight.

“I think this game come April, the Old Firm game, will tell everybody a big story.”

Rangers and Celtic title battle to go to the wire

There is so far every indication that the title race is going to go right to the wire with there being very little currently separating Rangers and Celtic in terms of points.

The Gers have been in fine form for the past couple of months, having suffered just one defeat since Philippe Clement took charge at Ibrox, but that came against their Old Firm rivals.

Although the Hoops have been criticised for some of their performances in recent weeks, the 7-1 victory over Dundee should provide them with plenty of confidence.

But it is the Gers that still find themselves sitting at the top of the SPL table after goals from James Tavernier and Tom Lawrence secured them a comeback victory over Kilmarnock.

It’s hard to say with confidence which way the title will go this season, but the Light Blues are currently in control of their destiny and they will be hoping it stays that way after the two sides meet in April at Ibrox.
