Rangers: Lee McCulloch wowed by James Tavernier after what he did v Kilmarnock
Lee McCulloch was in awe of James Tavernier as the Rangers star scored an incredible equaliser during a 2-1 victory over Kilmarnock on Wednesday 28 February.
The Gers were pinned back when John Lundstram was penalised for a handball in the 12th minute, with Danny Armstrong taking the duty of slotting past Jack Butland.
After a difficult first half, it seemed that a special moment would be needed for Philippe Clement’s side to get back into the clash, and up stepped Tavernier.
Speaking live via BBC Radio Scotland on Wednesday (28 February, 8:58pm), McCulloch said: “What do you say? The quality of that man is unreal.
“He’s 20, maybe 30 yards out, it’s up and over the wall, giving [Will] Dennis no chance at all. It has given Rangers a lifeline.”
James Tavernier steps up for Rangers in Scottish Premiership
As any captain should, Tavernier stepped up when it mattered most, blasting past Dennis in between the Kilmarnock sticks to equalise for Rangers.
With his 13th league goal of the season, Tavernier proved exactly why he has earned his spot in the Ibrox history books, adding to his incredible number of goals for the Gers since 2015.
This moment shifted the momentum at Rugby Park, with Tom Lawrence scoring four minutes later to take the lead and spare the league leader’s blushes.

With Old Firm rivals Celtic battering Dundee FC at Celtic Park, it was vital that Philippe Clement’s side claimed all three points against Killie and maintain the two-point gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
Though Clement will be hoping that his forwards can begin to step up in crucial moments, like being 1-0 down to Kilmarnock, it will be a brilliant feeling to know that he can depend on his right-back to pull off such sensational moments.
