Ben Davies summer exit on the cards as Rangers exodus expected

Ben Davies will likely leave Rangers in the summer and there could be an exodus of players at Ibrox, according to Derek Ferguson.

Rangers Review journalist Chris Jack suggested (21 February) that the 28-year-old is one of the players Philippe Clement might look to move on in order to free up space to improve his defence.

Davies has made only four starts in the Scottish Premiership this season, the last of which was in a 2-1 victory over Hearts back on October 29, albeit he has had some injury issues too.

As such, Ferguson thinks it makes sense for both the player and the club to cut ties in the summer, though the ex-Rangers man envisages he will be one of several to find new pastures.

“I think any player when you’re training, you’re fit, you want to be playing and that lack of game time it must irk him to some extent,” he told Ibrox News.

“You look at that squad they’ve got at the minute at Rangers, is it going to be difficult? Does the new manager fancy him? These are questions we don’t know.

“But if I’m in Ben Davies’ shoes I want to play. He’s 28 now, I think it’s so important around about that age, you’ve got to be playing.

“He might be one of the ones who leave. He’ll not be the only one, I imagine there’ll be quite a few outgoings, it will be a slow process but the manager will bring in his own men.”

Will Rangers sell Ben Davies in the summer transfer window?

Davies has struggled to prove he can be a mainstay in this Rangers side, with Connor Goldson and John Souttar the preferred pairing of Clement.

Ferguson is right, at his age Davies really needs to be playing. You get the sense he would draw plenty of Championship interest, the only issue might be whether his wages prove problematic for interested parties.

Rangers
Ben Davies has been in and out of the Rangers team this past season.

But Clement obviously feels he has better options at his disposal and you would imagine that over the next few windows he will want to build his own squad.

It does, then, lead to the obvious conclusion that Rangers will look to move Davies on this summer.
