Rangers: Philippe Clement provides early team news v Kilmarnock as Kemar Roofe update emerges

Philippe Clement has confirmed that Kemar Roofe will not play against Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday 28 February.

The striker has been working hard to return from a long-term injury, recently appearing for Rangers B as he works towards full fitness.

Having not been in action for the senior team since December, Clement has been limited with his choices up front, with Danilo and Abdallah Sima also sidelined.

Speaking to the club’s official X account on Tuesday (27 February), Clement said: “The squad is fine – there have been no further injuries since the weekend but Kemar Roofe will not play – but this creates a chance for another player.”

Kemar Roofe remains out of Rangers squad despite positive update

Roofe has been a miss for the Gers, even with Ibrox experiencing a stunning run of form, boasting 10 games unbeaten since losing to Old Firm rivals Celtic in December.

Clement has been relatively stretched for options in attack, with Rabbi Matondo the most recent player to join the injury list this season, with Danilo and Sima being huge misses.

Cyriel Dessers has been an incredible addition to the squad since Clement arrived at Ibrox in October, with the striker unable to make the desired impact under Michael Beale’s reign.

However, the Belgian’s ideal situation would be that he can switch and swap his attacking line to keep all his players fresh, rather than risk more injuries. However, it is vital that Roofe gets back to 100 per cent fitness before returning.

The January arrivals of Oscar Cortes and Mohamed Diomande have been much-needed, with the duo hitting the ground running and getting on the scoresheet already.

Rangers show no signs of slowing down and will likely breeze past Kilmarnock, and Roofe will have to watch on from the sidelines once more, but not for too much longer.
