Rangers: David Edgar reacts to Jack Butland update on Sky Sports

David Edgar has responded as Rangers star Jack Butland is reportedly in contention for a return to the England squad, according to Sky Sports.

The sports news outlet reported that they were told via their X account on 27 February that Butland could return to the squad to face Brazil and Belgium after his impressive displays at Ibrox this season.

Since arriving in Glasgow in the summer, the goalkeeper has been one of the most consistent performers, taking his game to a new level under Philippe Clement.

Edgar simply wrote on X: “Good.”

Could Rangers’ Jack Butland earn an England call-up?

This has come after weeks of speculation surrounding the goalkeeper, who confessed he had met with Gareth Southgate when the squad travelled to Auchenhowie ahead of their friendly clash with Scotland months ago.

Ally McCoist has been particularly vocal in his backing for Butland to return to the international setup, with his standout performances at Ibrox more than earning him a place in the squad.

With Jordan Pickford almost guaranteed to remain the number one under Southgate, given his consistently top-level performances on the international stage, Butland could fill the gap as his backup.

With the likes of Nick Pope, Sam Johnstone, Dean Henderson and Aaron Ramsdale either injured or not playing consistently, the opportunity could arise for Butland to step in, and if he impresses, he could land himself a seat on the plane for Euro 2024.
