Rangers: Sky Sports pundits clash over Lennon Miller exit from Motherwell to Ibrox
Charlie Mulgrew and James McFadden disagreed over the possibility that Rangers should sign Motherwell sensation Lennon Miller.
The pair were speaking on the Sky Sports match coverage of the Well’s 3-1 defeat by Celtic on 25 February, after the 17-year-old’s wonderful assist for Blair Spittal put the home side one up at Fir Park, with ex-Hoops defender declaring that both sides of the Old Firm should be looking to sign him up “now” due to his obvious intellect on the pitch.
But former Motherwell and Everton forward McFadden rejected the idea of a step to up to Ibrox or Parkhead at this early stage, insisting that he needs more time to grow first.
Mulgrew said, via the Scottish Sun: “You see the effect he had on the game – he’s like a man the way he plays. He is so clever. You see him asking for the keeper to take the goal kick up and flick it on like his dad [Lee] used to do.
“What a player. He’s a level-headed boy and comes from a good family as well. If I was Celtic or Rangers I would sign him now and have him in the team. What a player he is.”
But McFadden responded: “No leave him, let him grow!”
Rangers told to snap up Lennon Miller from Fir Park immediately
Miller’s turn and pass to create Spittal’s excellent opener betrayed the fact that he only has 26 senior appearances under his belt and has surely forced clubs to take notice if they weren’t already.
Motherwell will undoubtedly want to hold of interest from Glasgow or anywhere else for as long as possible so whether the youngster will even be available remains to be seen.
The midfielder is clearly impressing and the expectation would be that he will continue to get better from this point, although that is certainly not guaranteed.

Rangers have already splashed out big money on the £4.3million deal to bring in Mohamed Diomande for Philippe Clement, but with John Lundstram yet to be re-signed, Ryan Jack quite possibly on the way out, and Nico Raskin suffering a notable dip in form, it could remain an area of focus in the summer.
There is certainly merit to the view that a young teenager needs to be where he can play for now, but if he is someone that the Gers do have their eye on for the future they might be sparked into action if they think they could lose their chance.
