Rangers face red tape for permanent Fabio Silva transfer at Ibrox in new update

Rangers will face a stumbling block in their attempts to sign Fabio Silva on a permanent deal from Wolves, according to Derek Ferguson.

The ex-Rangers man, speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, thinks that the Light Blues might not have the financial capital to complete a deal to sign a forward who cost the Premier League outfit £35million in 2020 (Sky Sports).

Silva, 21, has three goals in nine appearances since joining on loan in the last transfer window, including in the 5-0 battering of Hearts at Ibrox on Saturday (24 February).

Ferguson thinks Silva is loving live in Glasgow and has been impressed by the forward but does have doubts about the possibility of completing a full deal.

“I think, and I hope I’m speaking for most fans, when you’ve got a £35m player (you want to keep him),” he said.

“The quality that he’s already shown, he’s adaptable as well, he’s probably been asked to play a position that’s – not alien to him – but maybe not his best and that’s being played as number 9.

“I think he’s a little bit better in that 10 role, dropping deep, getting on the half turn. But you can tell he’s a good footballer, a quality football player and the more you have at the club the better.

“Does he come into that category? Absolutely. Is money going to be the stumbling block? That’s going to be the problem. So I don’t know if a deal could be done there.

“But he’s shown he’s a top player. The one thing that kind of stands out for me is he looks pretty comfortable with his teammates, with the fans, with everything around him.

“He looks a Rangers player to me, he looks a happy-chappy where he is at the moment. I think he’s going to get better actually as the weather moves on, once the horrible weather starts to ease up the pitches might get a bit better and I think it’ll help but he’s a class-act in my opinion.”

Will Rangers sign Fabio Silva on a full transfer?

What Ferguson says about Silva is absolutely spot on and you can already see that there is an affinity between the Portuguese ace and the supporters.

But, as ever with these things, it usually comes down to money and Wolves would be looking to recoup a huge amount of the money they spent to bring him to Molineux as a teenager.

Stranger things have happened and, who knows, maybe another loan deal at least could be struck if he’s not going to get the opportunities at Wolves again.

However, right now it would take a big leap of faith to think that Rangers could come up with the cash to complete a full transfer for Silva.
