BBC host names four Rangers stars in Team of the Week after Ibrox win v Hearts
Jonathan Sutherland has named four Rangers players in his Team of the Week following their convincing 5-0 victory over Hearts on Saturday (24 February).
Writing on the BBC Sport website on Monday (26 February), the BBC Sportscene host included keeper Jack Butland in the side after making the saves when required against the Jambos to provide his entire team with “enormous confidence”, while centre-back John Souttar also earned a place in the team.
He said midfielder John Lundstram has been “simply outstanding” for weeks at Ibrox as he made the cut, with January signing Oscar Cortes making the side after announcing himself as a “real danger with huge potential”.
“Four spots for five-star Rangers,” said Sutherland. “It wasn’t exactly a vintage weekend for goalkeepers in the Premiership, but Jack Butland made the saves when required against Hearts. He truly is a commanding presence between the sticks, which must give his backline – and the entire team – enormous confidence.
“One player who seems to be benefitting from Butland’s stability is John Souttar, who just gets better by the week. Scotland fans will be hoping the centre-half can stay fit and take his seat on the plane to the Euros.
“In midfield, John Lundstram has been simply outstanding for weeks now. He sets the tone in midfield and makes this Rangers team click.
“And finally, Oscar Cortes is looking a shrewd signing after grabbing his first goal in royal blue. The Colombian is already in the groove under Philippe Clement, announcing himself as a real danger with huge potential.”
Rangers flying after massive win against Hearts
This was a game where many felt Rangers were going to be really tested after Hearts had been in superb form over the past couple of months.
They came up against a Gers side, though, that are firing on all cylinders and pulled out one of their best performances yet since Philippe Clement arrived at Ibrox.
After leapfrogging Celtic at the top of the SPL, they are looking well-set to beat their Old Firm rivals to Scottish football’s biggest honour this season.

The four players named in the Team of the Week were on top form for the Light Blues, creating a spine that’s proving exceptionally tough to beat at this moment in time.
Clement will be looking for them to maintain this form over the next few months as they go in pursuit of more trophies during this campaign following their Viaplay Cup victory.
