Rangers: Pundit shares title verdict live on Sky Sports, ‘so much easier’ claim made

Rangers have piled the pressure on fierce rivals Celtic with their 5-0 win against Hearts, according to Charlie Mulgrew.

The Gers thrashed the Edinburgh outfit 5-0 at Ibrox on Saturday (24 February) to extend their lead at the top of the table.

Cyriel Dessers scored twice in the victory, with Mohamed Diomande, Oscar Cortes and Fabio Silva also on target.

“There’s a lot of pressure on them, it’s the first time in a few years they will have felt this pressure,” said Mulgrew, as per Sky Sports Scotland.

“Rangers winning 5-0 yesterday piles a lot of pressure on the players. When you’re top of the league and when you go and win to extend your lead at the top, it’s so much easier than to come from behind.”

Can Rangers stay ahead of Celtic?

It was a long time coming for Rangers, but they have now finally overtaken Glasgow rivals Celtic at the top of the standings.

The remarkable turnaround looked very unlikely in the early stages of the season, with the Bhoys going strong under Brendan Rodgers and the Gers struggling under Michael Beale.

But Philippe Clement has replaced the latter at Ibrox and has changed the momentum, with Celtic now the side struggling for confidence.

While they have been underperforming, the Gers have been in superb form, typified by their thrashing of the side sitting third in the Scottish Premiership table.

Steven Naismith’s Jambos will be disappointed with their efforts in Glasgow, but at times their opponents were unplayable.

The task for Clement and his players will now be to stay ahead of the Bhoys at the top of the pile, which will be tricky as Scottish Cup and Europa League action returns.

In other Rangers news, one Gers sensation is set to force Clement’s hand after a behind-the-scenes Ibrox development.
