Rangers must hand John Lundstram new contract now after four key pass masterclass v Hearts

Rangers stormed past Hearts in their latest Scottish Premiership test, with the result extending their lead at the top of the table.

The Gers were in scintillating form at Ibrox on Saturday (24 February), led by recent arrivals Mohamed Diomande, Oscar Cortes and Fabio Silva.

All three loanees were on the scoresheet in Glasgow, with summer signing Cyriel Dessers also netting a brace.

Not on the scoresheet but producing an outstanding display for Philippe Clement was midfield ace John Lundstram.

The former Sheffield United star did manage to register an assist for Silva’s second-half strike, but he impressed in various other areas.

As per Sofascore, the experienced midfielder completed 76 of his 85 passes, at a success rate of 89%, with a stunning tally of four of those passes being key, twice as much as any other player on the pitch.

Lundstram’s 101 touches also led the way, while he made two clearances, one interception and one tackle throughout his highly influential display.

Worryingly, the midfielder’s contract at Ibrox will expire at the end of the current season, with the club undoubtedly not able to afford to lose him given his current displays.

Rangers chiefs must hand John Lundstram a new deal at Ibrox

That should force the powers that be in Glasgow into taking immediate action, with a new contract needing to go Lundstram’s way as soon as possible.

Rangers fans will still be raging at having lost the likes of Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos for free last summer upon the expiry of their contracts, with that situation needing to be avoided with Lundstram this time around.
