Rangers: David Tanner issues ‘huge’ verdict on who can deny Philippe Clement SPFL title
Rangers made a “huge” statement in the title race by thrashing Hearts and no other team can now stop them from winning the Scottish Premiership, according to David Tanner.
The talkSPORT broadcaster declared on Twitter from Ibrox on 24 February that “nobody else” can stop the title charge after the 5-0 victory, with the Gers now just having to keep out of their own way.
Philippe Clement’s men produced a stunning performance to overwhelm the third-placed Jambos, stretching their lead to five at the top of the SPFL until Celtic snatched victory at Motherwell late on the following day.
Tanner wrote: “At Ibrox to see Rangers blow away on-form Hearts. A big statement win. Huge. I repeat: only Rangers can stop Rangers winning the league now. Nobody else.”
Celtic cannot stop Rangers after statement Ibrox win over Hearts?
If the Light Blues can meet each challenge in a similar way to the one that they did the visit of Lawrence Shankland and company on an eight-win run then they will be fine.
Clearly, with a two-point lead in the race they are mathematically favourites as long as they don’t let their levels drop.
But after a day where virtually the entire starting XI had one of their best games of the season it seems impossible to match that all the way through the run in.
Celtic showed they still have some fight yet, but came within minutes of dropping more points at Fir Park, so the momentum is certainly blue and Clement has so far managed to prevent complacency creeping in.
But the Belgian’s own revival at Ibrox this term has shown how quickly a season can turn so there is no space to let up.
