Rangers: BBC pundit wowed by what ‘brilliant’ Oscar Cortes did v Hearts

James McFadden was impressed with Oscar Cortes against Hearts on Saturday 24 February, as the Colombian netted his first Rangers goal.

The 20-year-old made his second Scottish Premiership start since arriving from Lens on loan during the January transfer window, scoring and assisting as the Gers pulled off a 5-0 victory at Ibrox.

The former Motherwell striker was wowed by the technique shown in Cortes’ 37th-minute strike, citing that there would have been a “temptation” to overcomplicate the situation.

Speaking via BBC Sportscene on Saturday (24 February), McFadden said: “When the ball comes across, there is a temptation to take a touch and maybe overcomplicate it.

“But he just has so much confidence to step onto it and pass the ball into the net. It’s a brilliant goal, it’s just brilliant. It’s so composed. He’s another signing that has come in January, who’s making an impact.”

However, the winger is not the only new addition to Philippe Clement’s squad that has proven to be an incredible find at Ibrox, with Mohamed Diomande now forcing his way into the starting lineup.

The Ivorian scored his second goal in as many matches against Hearts, firing home after just two minutes to send Ibrox wild. It would be an extremely difficult decision for Clement to drop either player from the starting XI now, with both hitting the ground running upon their January arrivals.

As well as the two youngsters, Cyriel Dessers is in fine fettle, having bagged his second brace in three matches, seeing him reach 12 league goals for the season so far.

Rangers show no signs of slowing down and, having overtaken Old Firm rivals Celtic at the top of the table, the Scottish Premiership is theirs to lose.
