Rangers: Sky Sports journalist drops £67m Celtic transfer verdict after 5-0 Ibrox win v Hearts

Rangers beating Hearts 5-0 has underlined the importance of the January transfer window in the title race.

That is according to Sky Sports journalist after the Gers smashed the Jambos at Ibrox on Saturday (24 February).

Winter transfer arrivals Mohamed Diomande, Oscar Cortes and Fabio Silva all scored, with Cyriel Dessers netting a brace.

“Has today underlined the importance of the January window in the title race?” said Benstead, as quoted by Sky Sports. “Three Rangers additions all on the scoresheet and adding a freshness to the team.

“Philippe Clement now has strength in depth and options off the bench. Across the city, Celtic have £67m in the bank but have they given Brendan Rodgers enough on the park?”

New Rangers trio repay Philippe Clement faith at Ibrox

Rangers fans were not quite sure how manager Philippe Clement would approach his first transfer window at Ibrox.

Many were undoubtedly worried after Michael Beale’s mixed recruitment in the summer, with the boss bringing nine new players to Ibrox in a major revamp.

The likes of Jack Butland and Abdallah Sima impressed early on, but several others struggled, which played a big role in Beale losing his job shortly after.

Current manager Clement has completely turned things around at Ibrox, but he did still need to delve into the market despite a strong run immediately after arriving at Ibrox.

Diomande, Cortes and Silva have all joined on loan, and all three are thriving under the Belgian as the Gers fly high in the Scottish Premiership.

They played their parts in a stunning display at Ibrox, with third-placed Hearts blown away from the very first whistle.

Summer signing Dessers also deserves plenty of praise for his double, as does Beale for bringing him to Scotland, with Rangers now five points ahead of bitter rivals Celtic.
