Chris Sutton labelled ‘pathetic’ by Robbie Savage for dodging Rangers and Celtic question

Chris Sutton was jokingly labelled “pathetic” by Robbie Savage as he refused to answer a title question regarding Rangers and Celtic.

The Gers opened up a five-point lead over Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership with a 5-0 win over Hearts on Saturday (24 February).

Celtic have a game in hand against Motherwell to come on Sunday (25 February), but Rangers are now very much in the ascendency.

Asked by co-host Savage on BBC Radio 5’s 606 [24 February, 8:15pm] if Rangers will now go on to win the title, Sutton dodged the question seven times.

Sutton’s various answers included: “I think it’s Rangers’ to lose”, “It looks like it’s over – or at least Rangers fans certainly think so” and “at this moment in time they’re favourites”.

Former Celtic striker Sutton also said: “They’re favourites”, and “they’re ahead” as he desperately tried to dodge categorically stating that Rangers will go on to win the title.

In reply, Savage said: “What a pathetic person.”

To give Sutton his dues, he did praise the “remarkable” work Philippe Clement has done at Rangers since replacing Michael Beale.

He was also clearly just having a bit of fun with his answers, although it will be great to rub it in when the title is lifted in a few months.

The victory over Hearts – or more so the performance in easing to a five-goal win – means the Gers are now strong favourites for the title.

Philippe Clement has turned things around at Rangers

While there may only be two points in it come the end of the weekend, the Light Blues are showing no signs of letting up right now.

Clement has worked wonders at Ibrox and has got the fanbase believing again, which is in complete contrast to five months ago when things looked bleak.

That is not to say every game between now and the end of the season will end in victory, but there is no way Celtic are stopping us now.

In other Rangers news, the Gers have been warned they risk losing millions if they copy Celtic’s transfer ploy.
