Rangers sensation Zak Lovelace set to force Philippe Clement’s hand after Ibrox development

Rangers have been flying high under Philippe Clement, with the Ibrox club now top of the table for the first time under the Belgian.

The Gers are now two points ahead of fierce rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, having gone top after defeating St Johnstone 3-0 on Sunday (18 February).

Clement has been enjoying himself in the Ibrox dugout ever since taking over from Michael Beale earlier this season, with the club going on a strong run in all competitions.

But positive results didn’t stop the boss from strengthening his squad at the first available opportunity, with Fabio Silva, Mohamed Diomande and Oscar Cortes all arriving on loan.

There could, however, be another face added to the first team picture in the form of teenager Zak Lovelace.

The 18-year-old has just returned to the scene, having suffered a hamstring injury during his first ever start for the senior side back in October against St Mirren.

Steven Davis was in charge on a temporary basis back then, with his decision to hand Lovelace a first start sadly not turning out well.

But as per the official Rangers website (23 February), the young forward has been speaking to assistant coaches Alex Rae and Brian Gilmour on a regular basis, explaining that he needs to leave a mark when asked to train with the first team.

Should a mark be left, the coaches will undoubtedly be putting in a good word for Lovelace with Clement, if the manager doesn’t recognise the potential himself.

The teenager already has four senior appearances to his name, but he could soon force Clement’s hand now that he is back training again after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

In other Rangers news, a “shock” development on goalkeeper Jack Butland is now on the cards at Ibrox.
