Celtic anger detailed by Barry Ferguson in three-word message to Rangers – ‘Guys like Callum McGregor…’
Rangers must be wary of a backlash from Celtic after overtaking them in the table, according to Barry Ferguson.
The Ibrox legend believes many senior Celtic players will be angry after the Gers moved to first place in the Scottish Premiership table.
Philippe Clement’s side are two points ahead of their fierce rivals, as well as boasting a better goal difference.
“I’ve got three words for them now that Celtic are in the rearview mirror – beware the backlash – because that’s exactly what’s coming,” Ferguson wrote for the Daily Record. “Don’t think for a second that Celtic will just wave you off over the horizon towards the title, wishing you all the best.
“You have to believe they’re coming after you with a fire in their belly. You have to know how badly they want to bring you down and take it all away. Look, I’ve not been privy to the conversations that have been going on inside Celtic’s training ground this week. But I’ll have a good guess.
“There will have been a lot of straight talking and a lot of angry men. Guys like Callum McGregor, Joe Hart and Cameron Carter-Vickers won’t take any of this lying down. And Rangers would be making a huge mistake if they expect anything other than a stinging Celtic response to being knocked off their perch.”
Rangers to move further clear of Celtic?
There hasn’t been much of a battle between the two Scottish giants all season, but that all changed when the Gers defeated St Johnstone 3-0 on Sunday (18 February) to go ahead of the Bhoys at the very summit.
It has been a long road to the top for the Ibrox club, who looked down and out at one point this season under Michael Beale.
But Rangers have completed a stunning turnaround under Clement, who has got the Gers winning match after match.
The hard work only begins now, however, with boss Brendan Rodgers and his players certain to want their top spot back as soon as possible.
An exciting title race is, therefore, certain to play out over the coming months, with neither side able to slip up.

The league could, of course, all come down to the Old Firm fixtures, with the next taking place at Ibrox in early April.
In other Rangers news, a “shock” development on goalkeeper Jack Butland is now on the cards at Ibrox.
