Rangers transfer news: Ben Davies, Leon Balogun and Leon King could leave Ibrox this summer

Chris Jack has claimed Ben Davies, Leon Balogun and Leon King could all be set to leave Rangers this summer in a bid to reinvest and strengthen in defence.

The Rangers Review journalist reported that, given the lack of playing time both Davies and King have had, they could be moved on, while a decision will be made over Balogun’s contract.

It was said that if the club can recoup fees for the players, it could be reinvested either to improve upon Connor Goldson and John Souttar in the position or to bring in a reliable backup.

Speaking to The Rangers Review [21 February], Jack shared: “It’s an area the manager will probably look to address come the summer. Ben Davies has not played that often under [Philippe] Clement, he’s had his fitness issues.

“He looks like one of the guys that, come the summer, you’d take the fee back, reinvest the wages and look to strengthen in that position.

“Leon King is down the pecking order, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he moves on. Balogun, he’s one of the ones up for debate in terms of a contract.

“I think if you went into next season with Goldson and Souttar as your starting centre-halves, you could either add to it and bring in someone better or bring in someone to provide competition there.”

Rangers transfer news emerges ahead of the summer

If the three Rangers defenders have been earmarked as potential outgoings for the summer, reinforcements will need to come as a result of their exits to improve on Souttar and Goldson in defence.

Goldson has been a fantastic servant at Ibrox and has received high praise for his performances again this season, so his place looks to be secure, with the defence built around both him and James Tavernier.

Souttar, meanwhile, has been a steady presence alongside his teammates without really hitting the heights, and always with the threat that one poor display could see him dropped out of the team and rotated with the likes of Balogun and Davies.

Philippe Clement would have been frustrated by the lack of impact Nicolas Raskin made for Rangers

Centre-back has never been a specific problem position at Ibrox, but there is no doubt the position could be improved upon, with options previously mooted including Harry Souttar from Leicester.

Should Clement opt to move the defenders on, this position will certainly be one to watch come the summer.
