Rangers could now make a fortune on Dujon Sterling transfer after arrival on free from Chelsea

Dujon Sterling has been tipped by Jonny McFarlane to make Rangers a lot of money if they develop him properly before selling him on.

The Rangers Review journalist reacted via Twitter on 18 February as the former Chelsea player impressed off the bench in the 3-0 victory over St Johnstone that took the Light Blues top of the SPFL.

The 24-year-old was nominally brought in as full-back cover in the summer but has impressed more as a midfielder after being pressed into action for the Viaplay Cup final following Jose Cifuentes’ suspension.

After Sterling’s 45 minutes at the weekend McFarlane wrote: “What a player Dujon Sterling is. Versatile across multiple positions. Supreme attitude. Powerful and athletic. Will make Rangers a fortune if properly developed.”

Rangers to bank big money on Michael Beale man Dujon Sterling?

Sterling has proven to be a slow burn at Ibrox but is looking more and more like being one of the success stories of the summer overhaul under Micheal Beale, having quickly faded into obscurity early in the campaign.

That it took the former Ibrox boss, who has just been sacked for a second time this season by Sunderland, to leave the club for the free transfer arrival to get his chance surely says more about Beale than it does about Sterling.

Philippe Clement has given him a number of starts in midfield, including for the Old Firm derby, with the majority of his 21 Rangers appearances coming since the Belgian took over.

The player trading model is improving at Ibrox but still has a long way to go in comparison to the regular profits made at Celtic, but if everything goes according to plan from here then Sterling could help change that.

So if the club can get another a couple of seasons out of him while he continues to develop on his current trajectory then a reasonable transfer fee to move on, potentially back to England, would represent a definite success for both parties.
