Keith Jackson shares Rangers and Celtic title prediction in Daily Record

Keith Jackson has tipped Rangers to win the title as Celtic continue to self-destruct while Phillipe Clement’s side are gaining momentum having taken top spot from their rivals over the weekend.

This verdict has emerged following Rangers’ 3-0 win against St Johnstone while Celtic threw away a 1-0 lead to draw with Kilmarnock at Parkhead, gifting the chance for Gers to go top.

However, Jackon also highlighted Brendan Rodgers’ fantastic record in Old Firm clashes, having won both games so far this season, suggesting that could be a difference-maker for his side.

Writing for the Daily Record [19 February] when asked whether Gers will win the title, Jackson shared: “It’s starting to look very much like it. All the momentum is behind Philippe Clement at a moment when Celtic seem hellbent on self-destructing.

“But derby day specialist Brendan Rodgers knows how to win Old Firm games and with two of them still to come, Rangers can take nothing for granted.”

Rangers may now be favourites to win the title.

Given the disastrous start to the season under the leadership of Michael Beale, who would have guessed Rangers would end up favourites to win the title this season?

Celtic’s difficult season continued with the result at home against Kilmarnock, but Clement’s side made the most of their opportunity with a 3-0 victory, moving them into first place, and looking significantly less vulnerable than their Old Firm rivals.

Rangers’ results this season have drawn high praise this season, with Chris Sutton even suggesting Celtic should take notes about Clement’s style both on and off the pitch in a bid to resurrect their title bid.

However, as is usually the case during a tight SPFL title race, the Old Firm derbies could be what ultimately decides the destination of the title. And given Rodgers’ strong record in those games, he may still hold the cards.

This one could go down to the wire in a tight race for first-place, whether Rangers’ consistency will be enough to hold off Celtic remains to be seen, but the derbies will likely be key.
