Rangers: Philippe Clement exit problem emerges at Ibrox, ‘bigger club’ to want Belgian manager
Rangers risk losing Philippe Clement to “a bigger club” on the basis of what he has achieved so far at Ibrox, according to Hugh Keevins.
Former Monaco and Rangers boss Clement has worked wonders since replacing Michael Beale at Ibrox four months ago.
Gers fans will of course hope Clement remains in place for years to come, but Keevins is not so sure on the basis of what happened at rivals Celtic.
“When you’re not afflicted by a preoccupation with external noise you can get on with your work,” he wrote in his Daily Record column [18 February].
“The only problem Rangers have is that, like Ange [Postecoglou] at Celtic, high-profile success means a bigger club will eventually take notice of him.”
Philippe Clement under contract at Ibrox until 2027
It might be hard to remember now, but Rangers fans were fairly split on whether Clement was the right man for the job prior to his appointment.
It has been nothing but up for the Gers since then, though, with Clement transforming the club completely – both on and off the field.
Clement has showed why he was so highly regarded by those high up at the club and has already lifted one trophy to date.
What Keevins says is of course true, even if some Rangers fans will take offence at the “bigger club” tag.
Postecoglou is a pertinent example as Celtic fans thought the same about him, only for Tottenham to come calling last summer.

The bottom line, though, is that the Belgian is under contract at Ibrox until 2027.
Even if a club does come calling at some point, it would take a lot to persuade both Clement and then the Rangers board to part ways.
Clement has the potential to build an almighty legacy at Rangers, and no “bigger club” will stand in the way of that.
In other Rangers news, Clement has set the Gers a £30m transfer target after what he has seen at Brentford this week.
