Rangers: Sky Sports pundit blown away by what he’s seen at Ibrox – ‘Staggering’

Kenny Miller says it is “staggering” what Philippe Clement has so far achieved at Rangers as comparisons were made with Walter Smith.

Clement has helped transform the Gers’ campaign since replacing Michael Beale in the Ibrox dugout four months ago.

Rangers already have the Viaplay Cup in the bag and are still battling for silverware in three other competitions.

Writing for the Daily Record [18 February], Miller said of Clement: “Remember, they were getting battered from pillar to post before he came in.

“He’s ticked every box so far. Within six weeks in the job, he had to win a trophy and he did it. He had to try and stay on Celtic’s coat-tails even though they were seven points ahead.

“He’s now level with them at the top. He had to qualify from their Europa League group. He’s done all of them. And his team is improving as we speak.

“The stats from the win over Ross County in midweek were staggering. Rangers are getting better and stronger with every game, which is exactly what you need at the business end of the season.

“Maybe the comparisons are unfair given what the great man achieved at Ibrox. But just like Walter, Clement won’t let these players ease up. He’s not here for that.

“I probably wouldn’t have said this six weeks ago – but this team now looks ready for a title run-in. And make no mistake, so is their manager.”

Rangers fans loving life under Philippe Clement

Rangers have barely put a foot wrong since Clement took charge, whereas Celtic are now dropping points for fun.

The Gers have the chance to finally climb to the top of the Scottish Premiership on Sunday (18 February) when they face St Johnstone.

That, more than anything, would highlight the progress that has been made. At one point, the gap looked insurmountable if we are being honest.

Clement is a perfect example of why it is so important to find the right manager for the club; Beale being the opposite example.

The Belgian just gets the club, and supporters are fully behind him. He has a plan and that is something fans love to buy into.

That is not to say things will remain perfect, with the odd defeat to be expected. As a fanbase, it is just a case of staying fully behind the team.

Add another couple of trophies to the one won in December, and Clement could well create his own Smith-like dynasty at Ibrox.

In other Rangers news, Chris Sutton has also heaped praise on Clement for improving an “out-and-out dud”.
