Rangers: Hugh Keevins wowed by Philippe Clement after ‘unfathomable’ Ibrox turn of events
Rangers manager Philippe Clement is “invaluable” to the Ibrox club, according to the Daily Record’s Hugh Keevins.
The Belgian was appointed in the dugout in October after Michael Beale was sacked, with Steven Davis managing on an interim basis in between.
Clement has closed the gap on league leaders Celtic to just one point, having also won the League Cup with his current club.
“When Willie Collum was appointed to the Scottish Cup tie with Ayr United, Clement said he wasn’t interested in anything that had gone before involving the ref and Rangers, including the club’s request that the match official be disqualified from future games involving them,” Keevins wrote for the Daily Record.
“It was a request on the same level of unfathomable logic as asking for every game to begin with Rangers being awarded a goal start. Wiser counsel, such as Clement would have provided if he had been asked, would have known that to be the case. Clement has an air of authority that’s invested in him by the fact he is now invaluable to Rangers.”
Clement transforms Rangers
The Gers looked down and out under Beale earlier in the season, with the players and fans alike all struggling to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
But Clement has provided it, and has even gone one step further, with the Ibrox outfit on a fine run under the Belgian.
As well as their closing of the gap on fierce rivals Celtic, and the aforementioned League Cup success, the Gers are into the knockout stages of the Europa League and the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup.
But those two competitions can wait for the time being, with the league now the most important point of interest for all connected to the Gers.
While they have been good in the competition, their Glasgow rivals Celtic have somewhat made it easier, with the Bhoys struggling under Brendan Rodgers.

Their latest slip-up involved a 1-1 home draw with Kilmarnock on Saturday (17 February), with David Watson netting a last-minute equaliser for Killie at Celtic Park.
In other Rangers news, one Gers ace is now undroppable despite his 20% struggles against Ross County, which is bad news for one January signing.
