Philippe Clement must hook Fabio Silva at half-time if he wants Rangers win v St Johnstone

Rangers now have a fantastic opportunity to finally overtake Celtic at the very top of the Scottish Premiership table.

The Ibrox club have been chasing their fierce Glasgow rivals for quite some time, and are now within touching distance.

The Bhoys shot themselves in the foot with a 1-1 draw at home to Kilmarnock on Saturday (17 February), opening the door for Philippe Clement and his players to reach pole position.

They have the chance to do just that against St Johnstone on Sunday (18 February), with Clement unsurprisingly picking a strong starting XI for the trip to Perth.

One change involved Fabio Silva replacing Cyriel Dessers in the final third, with Clement constantly rotating the duo amid a busy schedule.

But the manager should now turn to the latter at half-time against St Johnstone if the visitors are to clinch a huge three points on the road.

Clement should bring on in-form Rangers ace Dessers v St Johnstone

After initial struggles, Dessers is a man in form, and was the hero against Ross County on Wednesday (14 February) with a well-taken double at Ibrox.

The striker took his Rangers goals tally to 14 against the Staggies, and is very capable of adding to that should Clement turn to him in Perth given that his confidence should be at an all-time high.

Moreover, Silva has made very little impact at McDiarmid Park, giving his manager another reason to make the change.

A huge 45 minutes awaits the Gers amid a tense title race, with no room for error following Celtic’s disappointing draw with Kilmarnock.

Rangers
Fabio Silva failed to impress during his time with Rangers.

The hosts have certainly put up a fight against the Glasgow giants, but the travelling side should have more than enough to come away with all three points, having gone 1-0 up in the 37th minute through Mohammed Diomande.

In other Rangers news, Hugh Keevins has been wowed by an “invaluable” Gers man after an “unfathomable” turn of events at Ibrox.
