Kris Boyd slams Scott Wright in Rangers win v St Johnstone as Philippe Clement makes decision
Rangers ace Scott Wright did not have his best 45 minutes in the Scottish Premiership encounter with St Johnstone.
That is according to Sky Sports pundit Kris Boyd after the winger was withdrawn at half-time in Perth on Sunday (18 February).
Philippe Clement replaced Wright with Dujon Sterling, with the visitors going on to win the match 3-0 to go top of the table and take a two point lead over Celtic.
“I don’t think it was Scott Wright’s best 45 minutes, but it’s another opportunity for somebody else to come in,” Boyd said on Sky Sports Football (1:01pm, 18 February). “There’s one thing about Clement, he doesn’t mind a half-time substitution.”
Wright struggles for Rangers v St Johnstone
It wasn’t the best 45 minutes for Wright, but plenty of his Rangers teammates also failed to impress on the road despite Clement naming a strong starting XI.
A special strike from recent recruit Mohammed Diomande was the difference between the two sides for the majority of the match, with the midfielder firing in from range in the 37th minute.
The hosts certainly made it a tense affair for Clement and his players, but the manager will be thrilled with the final outcome after James Tavernier wrapped up the win with two late goals from the penalty spot.
Rangers have been chasing fierce rivals Celtic for some time, and now fans will be over the moon to finally go ahead of Brendan Rodgers’s side.
The hard work is far from over, however, with the Gers needing to keep up their good momentum in order to get over the line. Their task is only going to get harder in the near future, with European football returning, along with the Scottish Cup.

Clement simply has to take each game as it comes, which is definitely what the man in the dugout has been doing so far, to great success.
