Chris Sutton sends Celtic message on Sky Sports after Rangers win
Chris Sutton has advised Celtic to follow Philippe Clement’s advice and take things one game at a time after Rangers beat St Johnstone 3-0, moving them top of the table.
The former Celtic man explained how the club have a lot of issues at the moment with injuries and other factors, but urged Brendan Rodgers to prove how good he is as a coach.
Rangers moved two points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership after their victory, having clawed back the gap between the Old Firm clubs, and it has now fallen to Rodgers’ side to become the chasing pack.
Speaking live on Sky Sports [18 February, 14:22] Sutton advised: “Listen to Philippe Clement talk there, it’s about the next game, you can’t look too far ahead.
“That’s what Celtic have to do, win the next game, and hopefully get some key players back. [Cameron] Carter-Vickers I don’t think is too far away, [Reo] Hatate seems to be a bit further away.
“The fact of the matter is that Celtic have messed up and messed up badly this season. You think they’ve beaten Rangers twice in the derby games and they’ve let a seven or eight-point gap go, Rangers have dragged that back on them.
“We haven’t seen the best of Celtic, we know Brendan [Rodgers] over the years has proven he is a good coach, he’s going to have to do that again. Celtic have got a lot of issues but it’s about winning the next game and putting Rangers under pressure.
“It’s not done and dusted by a long stretch.”
Could Rangers win the SPFL title ahead of Celtic?
It has been a mad season at Ibrox so far, but having now moved ahead of their arch-rivals at the top of the table, it is time to prove they can impress just as much when leading the league as they did when chasing.
Clement has been highly praised for his attitude since arriving, now to the point when even Sutton is advising Celtic to listen to the words of a Rangers boss in an attempt to drag themselves back top of the table.

Since the Ibrox side were able to drag themselves back into the title race, it has looked like a close-run thing, with both sides going into every game knowing a slip would grant their rivals an opportunity – and it was Celtic who slipped first, letting Gers take their chance.
It has never been clear which side will push ahead of the other, but now with Rangers having taken the lead, they will have to prove they can cope with the pressure of having Celtic on their tail.
