Michael Stewart shares Rangers verdict live on BBC Sportscene in Celtic message

Michael Stewart has admitted that Rangers going top of the Scottish Premiership is “significant” after their 3-0 win against St Johnstone on Sunday 18 February.

The Bears left McDiarmid Park with all three points after goals from James Tavernier and Mohamed Diomande, putting them above Celtic in the table for the first time since Philippe Clement arrived.

Stewart admitted that the win helped the hammer home the superiority over Celtic, who dropped points again at home against Kilmarnock on Saturday [17 February].

Speaking live from the McDiarmid Park pitch on BBC Sportscene [18 February], Stewart shared his verdict after the critical day in the Scottish Premiership.

“I think it is significant in the fact that it’s the first time they’ve been able to get top of the table since Philippe Clement has come in,” he said.

“It just continues the momentum that has been built up since that appointment.

“On the back of the disappointment for Celtic yesterday, it just helps to hammer home the ascendency that Rangers have got just now.”

Rangers go above Celtic in Scottish Premiership

It was a perfect afternoon for the Bears in Perth, with Clement’s men strolling to three points despite the shocking playing surface on offer at McDiarmid Park.

With Celtic seemingly imploding and fans tipped to go berserk at Parkhead, it was up to Rangers to get their job done and they did that with ease, as Stewart pointed out.

Philippe Clement’s new-look Rangers squad is already beginning to take shape this summer.

On the same weekend that disgraceful footage of Michael Beale emerged in another Sunderland defeat, it is mad how much Clement has been able to do since coming in.

Looking back, this Rangers side was hopeless under Beale, and huge credit has to go to the Belgian and his players for turning everything around this quickly.

Hopefully, this is the start of the club really kicking on now with that gap only being stretched as they kick onto another Scottish Premiership title in a couple of months.
