Rangers favourites for SPFL title, Brendan Rodgers questioned after Celtic draw with Kilmarnock

Rangers are now favourites to win the SPFL for the “first time all season” after Celtic dropped more points against Kilmarnock, according to Tam McManus.

The former Hibs forward reacted via Twitter on 17 February after the Hoops were held to a 1-1 draw at home thanks to a 92nd minute David Watson equaliser.

It leaves the door open for Rangers to go clear at the top with a win at St Johnstone a day later, and McManus believes the “resurgent” Light Blues have too much for Brendan Rodgers’ stuttering side on current evidence while questioning the Parkhead boss.

McManus wrote: “Celtic can’t say that hadn’t been coming but I wonder if the manager will now point to 8 wins and 2 draws in the last 10 in his next press conference.

“That’s not going to be good enough against a resurgent Rangers who are for the 1st time all season favourites to win league.”

Rangers can go clear at top of SPFL vs St Johnstone

Even before Celtic stumbled again the momentum was already said to be firmly behind the Light Blues now, and having come into the weekend level on both points and goal difference the door is now wide open to seize the initiative.

The chance was there ahead of the Ross County match in midweek, with much focus on just three goals scored from such a huge number of attempts even though George Wickens had a blinder in goal.

On the rare occasions where Ange Postecoglou’s side failed to win in recent seasons the Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Michael Beale era Rangers rarely seemed equipped to take advantage.

But under Philippe Clement, while the side is clearly not infallible, there certainly seems to be something extra to the current set up.

Failure to get a win in the early Sunday kick off however (18 February) would now put a dent in the positive feeling that has been built up behind Rangers, so it is key that they follow through.
