Rangers: Derek Clark makes team news prediction for St Johnstone after Ibrox development

Oscar Cortes should start for Rangers when they make the trip to play St Johnstone on Sunday (18 February), according to Derek Clark.

Writing on the Rangers Review website on Saturday (17 February), the journalist said the Colombian international is someone all the Gers fans would “like to see more of” as he predicted the 20-year-old winger to replace the injured Rabbi Matondo in the starting lineup.

He also expects Fabio Silva to come in for Cyriel Dessers up front as Philippe Clement must manage the minutes of his only two strikers as the Light Blues look to continue their challenge for the SPL title at McDiarmid Park.

Oscar Cortes could be handed opportunity to impress for Rangers

It would make sense to hand Cortes his first league start for Rangers after the injury picked up by Matondo has ruled him out of the visit to Perth.

It will have been a disappointment for the Welshman to learn he is missing the clash as he has just found a little bit of form over the past couple of weeks after working his way back into the starting lineup.

But his absence could hand Cortes the opportunity to impress and the Gers fans will be keen to see more of their new signing in the flesh after he’s largely been restricted to minutes off the bench.

The Colombian has shown flashes of his talent, but a start against St Johnstone could be just what he needs to settle in with the Light Blues as he looks to help them in their title challenge.

Clement will be looking for his players to continue their excellent form in what is no doubt a game where they would be expecting to pick up three points.
