Jose Cifuentes stuck in limbo after Rangers exit as manager reveals new issues

Jose Cifuentes is caught up in more documentation problems on loan at Cruzeiro and it is currently unclear when the Rangers loanee will be able to play for his new club, according to Nicolas Larcamon.

The manager of the Brazilian side said, via the Scottish Sun (17 February): “Jose Cifuentes still has bureaucratic issues.

“We do not know when he will be able to play for the club, but we are obviously working as hard as possible to resolve this. The sooner he can play for us, the better.”

According to the Scottish Sun report there has been an issue with the midfielder’s registration relating to securing a work permit but the hold up is not related to Rangers.

Larcamon had previously declared how sure he was that the Ecuadorian would end up a permanent Cruzeiro signing, there is an option to buy in the year-long loan agreement, and would not be returning to Ibrox.

Cifuentes caught in limbo after Rangers exit

Nothing is quite working out as planned for Cifuentes since he left LAFC in the summer, with his move to Rangers turning out to be a disappointment and now the contingency plan getting bogged down.

He had been tipped to make his debut in Brazil this weekend (18 February) but it looks clear that will not now be happening.

The noises coming from his new club indicate they are very excited to have him, and since he chose the move over a number of other Ibrox exit options it looks to be the best place from his point of view as well.

But after struggling for football in Scotland, particularly after Michael Beale was replaced by Philippe Clement, his wait goes on in South America.

While the Brazilian transfer window stays open until 7 March [Andy Newport, 1 February], allowing plenty of leeway to get the deal done, complications were tipped to be caused by carnival season in Belo Horizonte.

However, if Larcamon and Cruzeiro are in the dark about when the situation will be sorted it suggests something additional may have gone awry.

In other Rangers news, a pundit has speculated on a Lawrence Shankland transfer in the wake of “astonishing” developments at Ibrox.
