Rangers: BBC pundit moots Philippe Clement demand after ‘missed opportunity’ v Ross County
Rangers manager Philippe Clement will be demanding that his players improve in front of goal despite their win over Ross County, according to Craig Moore.
The Light Blues moved level on points with Celtic with a 3-1 win on Wednesday (14 February) thanks a Cyriel Dessers double and John Souttar’s goal, but the Gers had plenty of chances to move above Brendan Rodgers’ side on goal difference.
While BBC Sport pundit Moore has insisted the most important thing for Rangers was winning the game, he thinks Clement may view it as a “missed opportunity” and expects the Belgian to be demanding more from his players in the coming weeks.
Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show (15 February) he said: “It was a great opportunity for Rangers to go clear on top of the table. There were a lot of chances in the match, there really were. For me, It should have been six or seven.
“I know Clement would have been happy with three points and the victory but I see it as a missed opportunity to go clear on top of the table. Rangers were very, very good.
“I think behind closed doors though, Clement will be demanding they take more opportunities. When you get that many, 21 shots on goal, you need to be scoring more.”
Rangers need clinical edge to win the title under Philippe Clement
Ultimately, it won’t matter too much if Rangers miss a string of opportunities against a side like Ross County, as they will always create enough chances to claim all three points, but Clement’s side cannot be that wasteful again this season.
The Gers have already seen in Old Firm matches this term that they will be punished if they miss big chances. Cyriel Dessers’ poor performance at Celtic Park is arguably the reason that the Hoops still, just, top the Scottish Premiership.

Clement is a perfectionist and he will always demand more from his players, regardless of how well the Gers are playing. It is safe to assume that the Belgian will have expected his team to convert more of their chances at Ibrox on Wednesday.
But should Celtic drop points and the Light Blues win their clash with St Johnstone, the Gers will be sitting pretty at the top of the Premiership having been eight points adrift when Clement arrived in Glasgow.
