Rangers: Wayne Mardle reacts to Glasgow boos for Rob Cross at Premier League darts

Wayne Mardle said “don’t get involved with Scottish football” after Rob Cross was booed at the Premier League darts in Glasgow following a visit to Rangers this week.

Cross, the 2018 PDC world champion, was pictured taking a visit to Ibrox prior to the Gers’ Scottish Premiership fixture with Ross County on Wednesday (14 February) ahead of playing round three of the Premier League darts (15 February).

It seemed some in attendance at the OVO Hydro were not best pleased with Cross’ visit as he was greeted with boos walking out and when on stage.

At first Mardle and fellow Sky Sports commentator Stuart Pyke were confused by the reaction before the latter, speaking on Sky Sports Action, said in quotes reported by the Daily Record: “I have an answer to the question about Rob Cross being booed. It’s all down to football apparently. He went to the Rangers game last night. That is why I think.

Mardle replied: “Oh do not get involved with Scottish football! Change of subject, darts is on!”

Rob Cross booed over Rangers visit at Premier League darts

Many darts fans were originally a bit nonplussed when Cross took to the stage in Glasgow for round three of the Premier League darts, including popular Sky commentator Mardle.

But, those following closely this week, were aware that Cross was at Ibrox and even posted about his visit on Instagram. Well, in a two-club, football-mad city like Glasgow that isn’t going to sit well with everyone, and it’s a safe assumption the jeers were from the Celtic fans in attendance.

Rangers
Rob Cross even met Rangers mascot ‘Broxi’ during his visit.

Particularly right now at a time when the Scottish Premiership race is absolutely wide open, Rangers’ 3-1 win over Ross leaving the two rivals level on points at the top of the table.

Mardle, though, was only interested in one thing and that was the darts. If some fans in attendance weren’t happy at the start then his 6-4 victory over ‘Bully Boy’ Michael Smith will not have done much to change their mood.
